Useful info
Cerro Catedral in Bariloche is the original and most traditional of Argentina’s ski resorts. At an altitude of 2338m, Catedral’s pistes boast one of Patagonia’s most stunning views, across the Lake District, which is dominated by Lake Nahuel Huapi and punctuated by striking snow capped peaks. Cerro Catedral’s 600 skiable hectares (495 acres), 40 lifts and 46 snow machines make it the biggest ski resort in Latin America.
In Cerro Castor in Ushuaia, skiers used to long queues and crowded pistes will find the lifts blissfully queue-free and the slopes clear. The 400 hectare skiable area is made up of 23 pistes suitable for varying levels of skiers. International ski teams train in Ushuaia every year, due to its ideal conditions.
Chapelco, close to San Martín de los Andes in the Lake District, is a boutique ski resort. It has a 140 hectare skiable area, 12 lifts and 31 pistes. The panoramic views from the slopes, of the Andes, Lanin Volcano and Lake Lacar, make Chapelco one of Argentina’s most attractive ski centres.
Las Leñas is an exclusive resort located 80km from Malargüe, in the province of Mendoza. In addition to its 24 pistes, 13 lifts and 228 hectare skiable area, it is Las Leñas’ off-piste skiing that makes it stand out. The off-piste conditions are ideal for heli-skiing and extreme skiing.
