Family Holidays
Most of the reasons that Argentina appeals to adults are the same as those that make it appealing to children: larger than life tourist attractions, fascinating wildlife, numerous adventure activities, varied museums, friendly locals and Maradona.
Useful info
Argentines love children. They are welcome everywhere and doted on. Even the food – a staple of steak and chips or pasta – caters to most children’s demands.
Here are some ideas for fun family holidays in Argentina:
Family Holiday Buenos Aires: Buenos Aires has enough attractions to keep children talking about it for months after their visit. Colourful markets, wonderful ice cream parlours, a spooky cemetery, a museum dedicated to Maradona and Boca Juniors, and huge parks, punctuated with dog walkers holding up to twenty dogs at once.
Family Holiday Patagonia: The Valdés Peninsula in Northern Patagonia with its whales, penguins, sea lions and elephant seals cannot fail to entertain animal fans. For young skiers, the family-friendly ski resorts of the Lake District are the place (from June to September). In the summer, this area is good for outdoor activities, such as riding, cycling or kayaking. Further south, the most intrepid explorers will be enthralled by tales of pirates and prisoners at the End of the World in Tierra del Fuego.
Family Holiday Iguazú & Esteros del Iberá: Iguazú waterfalls, among the largest in the world, set amidst sub-tropical rainforest on the border with Brazil and Paraguay, are an awe-inspiring sight for people of all ages. The toucans, parrots, iguanas and raccoon-like coatis around the Iguazú waterfalls are an added treat for children. But the real destination for wildlife lovers is Esteros del Iberá, where crocodiles and capybara (a sort of giant guinea pig) inhabit beautiful marshes alongside deer, butterflies and hundreds of birds.
Family Holiday Córdoba: Everyone that visits Argentina, young or old, should have a go at being a gaucho (Argentine cowboy). Stay at a ranch (estancia) and explore the hills and valleys of Córdoba on horseback. Riders of all levels are encouraged to saddle up. At night, eat barbeque (asado) and share tales of horseback adventures around the camp fire. There are estancias all over the country, most with horses, swimming pools, bikes and plenty of other activities to keep families entertained.
